We’re hoping to create a movement to encourage people to get active every day, even while spending most of our time at home and keeping our physical distance. The COVID-19 pandemic has kept most of us indoors, which has made it harder to stay physically active. The Keep It Moving Challenge supports national health promotion efforts, including the Move Your Way campaign by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion to educate the public on the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Let’s start a movement for active communities! No matter how big or small your group will be, we make it easy for you to get people moving. 1 and runs through April 10, the last day of APHA’s celebration of National Public Health Week. You can absolutely keep walking and running as your primary activity this year! By focusing on activities, we can make sure everyone finds a fun way to get moving and compete in the challenge. If you participated in the Billion Steps Challenge in the past, you might be looking for ways to increase your walking, especially as COVID-19 keeps many of us at home. Evidence shows that consistent physical activity helps prevent chronic disease, improve quality of life, maintain mental health and promote healthy aging. You can track any kind of physical activity and convert it into distance to contribute to the challenge. Our goal is to collectively make it from one end of our challenge map to the other by April 10, while getting everyone’s physical activity levels up. You can use our sample marketing materials to invite your whole community to join! We have tools to help you find creative ways to stay active and motivate others in your neighborhood, workplace or congregation. APHA’s Keep It Moving Challenge makes it easy and fun to promote healthy behaviors and physical activity in your community.
